The Presidency and Charles Adu Boahen have confused Ghanaians over the fate of the latter as a former minister of state in charge of Finance.
After contents of the yet to be broadcasted documentary by TigerEyePi was made public, President Akufo-Addo ‘supposedly’ issued a release signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, indicating the termination of appointment of the son of the first flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party by President Akufo-Addo.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has terminated the appointment of the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen, with immediate effect.
“After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, “Galamsey Economy”, the President spoke to Mr. Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations,” the letter from the Presidency stated.
Meanwhile, Mr. Adu Boahen, who might have probably been oblivious of the content of his sacked letter, –which would be very surprising though –went on his Facebook wall to deny knowledge of the said allegations, looking forward to a full probe into the issue to ascertain the authenticity of the allegations.
But contrary to what came from the presidency, Charles Adu Boahen says he was not sacked but resigned.
Substantively I have not been involved in this act of which I am being accused.
“I do not however wish to be a distraction to
Government and the Ministry of Finance at this crucial moment.
“Consequently I have submitted my resignation to the President of the Republic. I will however look forward to a full investigation which I hope will reveal that I have not committed this act,” he said in a Facebook page which be subsequently pulled down after possibly realising the blunder he had caused with his post.
The question begging for answers is whether the minister was truly sacked or resigned.
