Dr. Jonathan Asante-Otchere, a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, has asked residents of Bole and Ho to desist from rampaging their communities over the ongoing appointments.

Speaking specifically about the youth of Bole, the hometown of the President, he said their attitude is portraying a picture of greediness which might not be the case, considering the fact that the presidency sits in their hometown.

This comes in the wake of reports that some youth in Bole-Bamboi allegedly burned car tyres at the residence of President John Dramani Mahama’s father, protesting the MP’s omission from the President’s ministerial nominations.

But speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the political analyst said such incidents were to be expected but believes might have stemmed from misinformation to the youth.

“Things of that nature were to be expected if the party machinery or the government itself did not anticipate skirmishes of that nature, then I think that itself they’ve not thought of such experience rearing their ugly heads along the line.

“I’m quite surprised that the youth of Bole will go on rampage, especially, when you have the presidency in your fold. They may let people think that they are being greedy but that may not be the case. They might have been misinformed along the line,” Dr. Asante-Otchere indicated.

The lecturer advised that instead of seeking a ministerial appointment for one person, they should rather think of getting employed to abate the practice of depending on one particular individual.

He further counseled the political class to create more job opportunities to ensure such things do not reoccur.

“I think that they should rather be looking at situations where majority of them will get jobs instead of just an identifiable person getting a ministerial position and you’ll all be sponging on that particular person.

“When the economy expands and they are assured in terms of jobs, things of that nature will be a thing of the past. that’s the more reason why politicians would have to create jobs along the line,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Yusif Sulemana, the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, has appealed to the youth and residents of the area to remain calm and refrain from any acts of agitation in his name.

In a statement issued Tuesday, January 21, he reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty and support for President Mahama, expressing confidence in the former President’s wisdom and leadership. He called on his constituents to support Mahama’s “reset agenda” and focus on unity and development.

The MP assured residents that their concerns would be addressed and that he remained committed to representing their interests, regardless of the role assigned to him.

“I kindly appeal to the youth and people of Bole/Bamboi to remain calm and refrain from any form of agitation in my name,” Sulemana stated. “As a loyal and devoted brother of H.E. John Dramani Mahama and a firm believer in his wisdom and experience, I wholeheartedly support his decisions,” portions of his statement contained.

He further urged the community to support Mahama in his efforts, cautioning against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in actions that could bring embarrassment to the constituency.

“Please, do not take the law into your own hands or engage in actions that could bring embarrassment to us all,” he added.
