The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to outdoor the running mate for its flag bearer, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, today, Tuesday, July 09, 2024, at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital.

The unveiling of Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, also known as Nana Poku (Napo), follows his unanimous endorsement by the National Council of the party on Thursday, July 04, 2024.

Although many have raised reservations about the candidature of the Energy Minister as running mate to the flag bearer, party members think he is their best bet for the December 07 polls.

Key amongst the concerns being raised by people is that the Manhyia South Member of Parliament is arrogant, citing several comments he has made from his time as Education Minister till his current portfolio as Energy Minister.

But President Akufo-Addo, in his address to the media after the endorsement of the candidate at the party’s headquarters indicated that the pair was an excellent ticket, expressing his faith in the duo to break the ‘8’ for the NPP come December.

“The NPP has an excellent ticket and we’re going to win with this ticket on 7th December 2024, that’s the news. The feeling is good, they make a very good pair, and they are going to win.”

Meanwhile, many are trying their best to paint a different picture about Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh from what the public know him to be. Some party executives are now explaining certain comments he made, with different interpretations from how the public perceived those messages.

For instance, the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, has said the Energy Minister’s comments to Ghanaians to get their own timetable when they requested for a load-shedding schedule, was a message directly to members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who did not mean well for the country by asking for a timetable.
