The Atonsu and Bosomtwe mobile money agents have kicked against a decision to stop MoMo agents from transferring normal cash-in routine to customers.
The agents are to rather load the customer wallet ‘direct cash-in’ and assist the customer on his/her phone to send the money to its final destination.
This is to allow government rake in more revenue through E-levy.
Addressing a press conference at Jachie, the MoMo agents expressed fear that the yet-to-be introduced policy will collapse their business.
“Our commission has also been reduced. Agents used to pay 5% cash-in service but it was increased to 10% without any prior notification. Again, agents were earning 40% on cash-out but was recently decreased to 36%. Now trying to restrict us from sending money to a subscriber through another person will come as a big blow to us. Our business risk collapsing,” says Daniel Martey, Public Relations Officer of the MoMo agents.
The group called for the suspension of the yet-to-be implemented initiative.
“About 70% of our regular customers reject this because agents are unauthorized to get hold of a customer’s phone and perform any transaction on their behalf,” he added.
