The Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed that plans are far advanced to finalise the results for Ablekuma North and Dome Kwabenya constituencies to have their Members of Parliament-elect declared.
The EC says this is crucial ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the 9th Parliament which will take place on Tuesday, January 07, 2025.
The Commission says it has successfully resolved the issues surrounding the disputed constituencies, with results of seven out of the nine already re-collated and declared.
The seven contentious polities resolved are the Okaikwei Central, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano North, Ahafo Ano South West, Obuasi East, Tema Central, and Techiman South constituencies.
At a press conference held by the Commission Tuesday, December 24, 2024, Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, expressed confidence in the Commission’s ability to resolve the outstanding issues promptly.
He disclosed that the EC had to delay the re-collation and announcement of the two remaining constituencies due to concerns raised by stakeholders which warranted further scrutiny to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
The Deputy Chairperson reassured the public of the EC’s unwavering commitment to transparency and credibility, urging all political parties and stakeholders to remain calm as the Commission resolves the outstanding issues.
“We are hopeful that the two outstanding constituencies will have their MPs elect very, very soon, way before the swearing-in parliament,” Dr Asare stated.
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has so far secured all the seven seats that were re-collated and declared by the EC, sparking mixed reactions among the public.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has, however, rejected the outcomes and described the EC’s actions as illegal, vowing to challenge the decisions.
