The Electricity Company of Ghana has completed the construction of a new distribution line from Afari Substation to Nkawie to improve Power Supply in some communities under the Atwima Nwabiegya South Municipality.
According to the power distributor, the Project was completed at a cost of GHȼ2,762,941.09
Ing. George Amoah, ECG General Manager for Ashanti West Region disclosed that the project which is a Creation of a new 11kV feeder from the Afari Primary Substation will improve power supply to Customers around Nkawie , Toase, Mpasatia, Gyankobaa, Wioso, Kwame Dwaah, Bedabour and its environs.
Ing. Amoah explained that the new distribution line includes erecting 92 new 11meter poles, 3 new 12meter poles, 11kV headgear, stringing of new conductors, 11kV GIS load isolator and other materials.
According to the Ashanti West Regional General Manager, Ing. George Amoah, the mission of the company which is “to provide quality, reliable and safe electricity services to support the socio-economic growth and development of Ghana informed management’s decision to complete this project to provide convenience for our customers.
Ing. Amoah noted that, prior to the completion of this project, customers residing in and around the Nkawie enclave depended on power supply from the Agogo Primary Substation which is far, and also the distribution line from Atwima Agogo to Nkawie had lengthy distance and was reaching its maximum capacity making it difficult to completely supply all customers within the enclave.
According to Ing. Amoah, these challenges led to occasional low voltage in some areas especially during peak periods, hence the need to construct a dedicated line from the Afari Primary Substation to relieve the load on the line from the Agogo Primary Substation.
“We are aware of significant load growth towards the Nkawie enclave with the massive infrastructure springing up everyday, hence the need to initiate and complete this project to relieve existing distribution lines like Ntensere, Sepaase and also take care of future demand in the area, he added.
The General Manager revealed that the project has the following benefits:
1)Reduction of system losses.
2)Improved reliability and stable power supply within the enclave to enhance customer satisfaction.
3) Improved Voltage Profile as the issues of low voltage will be addressed with the completion of this new distribution line.
4)Operational efficiency and flexibility since the company can now supply power to that enclave from Afari Primary Substation or Atwima Agogo Substation.
Ing. Amoah underscored the importance of this project as a step in the right direction towards the provision of reliable and quality power supply to attract businesses to the Region and ensure all customers are happy with the services of ECG.
Ing. Amoah announced that the company is embarking on similar projects across the Region to improve electricity supply to customers.
“We are also constructing another distribution line from the Afari Substation to Sepaase to improve power supply to customers around Afari, Nerebehi and Ntensere”, he said.
He urged customers to desist from illegal connections and pay their bills promptly to enable ECG to serve them better through the completion of existing projects and initiation of new ones that will inure to their benefits.
He further cautioned Customers to desist from engaging private electricians anytime they experience an outage and urged the general public to report faults or individuals who interfere with ECG network via the ECG contact center on *0302611611*, report to the nearest ECG office, lodge a complaint on the ECG PowerApp or reach ECG on Social Media Platforms *@ECGghOfficial* on Facebook, X, or instagram.
Ing. Amoah also advised customers to take advantage of the newly introduced ECG cashless system by downloading the ECG PowerApp from Google playstore or AppStore or use the shortcode *226# to pay their bills before ECG Officials visit their premises.
