The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has written to the Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), to investigate the alleged missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The Minister’s request has become necessary following the brouhaha surrounding the containers procured by the power distribution company in the previous year.
Dr. Jinapor had earlier commissioned a Technical Committee which probed the matter to ascertain that some of the containers procured by ECG could not be found at the Tema Port, thus allegedly missing.
In a request dated April 02, 2025, the Minister said the finalisation of the investigation of the Technical Committee indicated that one thousand, three hundred and fifty-seven (1,357) of the containers could not be accounted for.
Following the Committee’s investigations, operatives of the National Security were able to trace over 40 of the missing containers to the warehouse of a private company within the Greater Accra region.

In the meantime, the former Managing Director of the ECG, Samuel Dubik Mahama, in an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight Wednesday, April 02, 2025, indicated that the containers in question were not missing and were still at the port.
According to him, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) under whose purview the containers remained auctioned them.
He said his outfit wrote to the GRA on why their containers were being auctioned without their notice but were not given any response.
Mr. Mahama also blamed the Minister’s Technical Committee for failing to invite him to speak on the matter, and yet cited him in its report.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jinapor is accordingly praying the NIB to commence investigations into the missing containers and furnish the Ministry with the findings for the next course of action.
