President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially introduced the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asanteman Traditional Council.
The official introduction at the Manhyia Palace is in respect of Dr. Opoku Prempeh being a royal from Apedwafie.
His father was a brother to the late Asantehene, Otumfuo Prempeh Agyemang II, who reigned before the Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, the one Otumfuo Osei Tutu II succeeded.
At a mini durbar at the Manhyia Palace Tuesday, July 09, 2024, President Akufo-Addo introduced both the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
During his speech, President Akufo-Addo said he is confident the Asantehene will support a Bawumia/Opoku Prempeh reign just as he supported him during his 8 year tenure.
He also expressed his belief in the Vice President and the support he has given him, adding that he is confident of the NPP breaking the ‘8’.
“When Bawumia met with the National Executive Council (NEC) to present his running mate, he brought someone from your own home. When he presented him, there was no single person at the NEC that opposed to his candidature.
“I handed over the Free SHS to him (Matthew Opoku Prempeh) and I knew he could do it but he was able to handle it and today, the free SHS has been successful. Then I sent him to the Energy Ministry and there too, he performed creditably,” he told the Asantehene.
He also thanked the Asantehene for honouring them by inviting his chiefs to come and grace the occasion.
“Dr. Digitalisation and his running mate, Dr. Opoku Prempeh are here. You’ve honoured us for bringing together all these chiefs to meet us here today,” the President indicated.\
