John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated his call for the voters’ register to be audited looking at the anomalies that have been recorded since its exhibition.

He has shared the need to get the register scrutinised to correct all errors in it to avoid chaos in the upcoming polls.

The former President has bemoaned his party’s numerous calls for the register to be audited which has not been heeded by the EC.

“There are a lot of loopholes in the register which requires an audit. But despite our numerous calls, none is minding us and it is the register that is used to vote. So if the time comes and people go and their names are missing from the register, it will bring chaos. That is why we are calling for the register to be taken care of in order not to bring any issues,” he said .

Speaking at Chraa as part of his campaign tour to the Bono region, he said during his courtesy call on the chief that the NDC will not allow what happened in 2020 to happen again.

John Mahama narrated how some extra ballots were printed in 2020 after agents had been assigned to see to what was signed, sealed and dispatched to the respective constituencies.

Speaking to the chief, John Mahama said he cannot promise Ghana of peace if such incident reoccur in 2024.

“Nana, we don’t want what happened in 2020 happen again. During the 2020 electioneering period, we provided agents to monitor the printing of all the ballots and they signed after they have been counted and determined which number was being sent to each place.

“But later when someone returned to the printing house in search of his missing laptop, he saw that extra ballots have been printed and assuming it was some mistake, we burnt all those ballots. But on the election day, we saw people who had extra ballot papers and we handed them over to the police and till date, we have not heard that a single one of them has been punished.

“Ghanaians are really on the watch out and if what happened in 2020 happens today, I can’t say we will have peace. We the NDC wouldn’t want to cheat anyone so we won’t allow anyone to also cheat us. So we will commit our portion to ensure there is peace and if anyone says he wants to rig the election and change the verdict of the people, we won’t forgive that person,” he stated.
