With campaigning activities set to commence soon, flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, avers he is counting on the expertise of the former National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, to marshal support for the NDC for victory.

The “field marshal” as Mahama describes him, has been indisposed for some time now, following his ill health and receiving treatment abroad, has affirmed his readiness to hit the grounds as the campaign season beckons.

During a visit by the former President to the former Chairman’s residence Sunday, June 09, 2024, following his return, he said Mr. Ofosu Ampofo, whilst away, was still touching base with him, and believes he will utilise his experience to reach the grassroots.

“He has been the field commander before and once a commander, always a commander. Even when he was ill and in US, he was following everything that was happening here. He kept sending me texts and said ‘you people must do this, watch this, do this, do that’ and so he never disengaged,” John Mahama noted.

On his part, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said he is firm and resolute to assist John Mahama rescue the nation.

“I believe that I can be on my feet 24 hours to contribute to the 24-hour economy. I want to assure you that I will lace my boots whether my legs are strong or not and then enter into the field. Boots must be on the ground and make sure that we touch base with every nook and cranny of the country.

“Your vision and your determination to push Ghana forward, even though it is going to be very difficult resetting this country judging from the level they have brought us to, I believe that you are the safest pair of hands we can attach Ghana to, and I will urge all our colleagues that let’s bury our differences and put the party and Ghana first and not our personal parochial interest and by the grace of God, we will win power. It is not for us, it is always for Ghana,” he stated.
