The opposition National Democratic Congress has declared that it has no excuse to give Ghanaians if they lose the December 07 elections.

The party says Ghanaians are counting on the NDC to redeem them from the quagmire of hopelessness the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has plunged them into.

According to the umbrella party, the assurances being given them by Ghanaians ahead of the polls suggest people are tired of the NPP and want to vote them out due to the hardship the Akufo-Addo administration has brought upon them.

A former Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has noted that people have been calling on them to ensure their votes are protected, since they are ready to cast their ballots for the party come December.

Onua TV’s morning show Monday, June 24, 2024, with Yaa Titi Okrah, disclosed why the NDC has been impressing upon the Electoral Commission (EC) to do the right things in the lead up to the polls.

He expressed the need for a neutral referee for the exercise to ensure the will of the people is not subverted.

“I don’t think we have any excuse to give Ghanaians this time around. Because wherever we go, Ghanaians tell us they will vote for us but it is only left for us to protect the votes to ensure the result is declared.

“This is the reason we have been putting the EC to check on its activities because if we don’t ensure that the EC does the right thing, we’ll be swayed.  We all need to raise the awareness for the need for a neutral umpire who will give us the hope that the choice of the people will not be changed,” he relayed in Twi.

The former Chair of the NDC explained that the party will not countenance what the EC did in 2024 by changing the results multiple times, which he said according to the Constitution is illegal.

Once the results are declared, the former Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa North indicated that, altering it afterwards, as done by the EC in the 2020 polls, renders it null and void, adding that, it is just unfortunate Madam Jean Mensa was not allowed to mount the witness box to tell Ghanaians why she did that, like how the former Chair, Kwadwo Afari Gyan, did in the 2012 presidential election petition.
