Pressure group Election Watch Ghana has referred to the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) as ‘Errors Commission’ over recent errors they claim have been churned out by the Commission recently.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 22, the group said figures released by the EC were not accurate and “were calculated and given to them publicly by the opposition NDC on social media, therefore we can boldly state that the EC is now Errors Commission”.

The statement jointly signed by Mark Ewusi Arkoh and Jude Balma described the current voter register as a “fraudulent sham, riddled with errors and inconsistencies”.

“It’s a ticking time-bomb for our democracy, and we will demand an audit to expose the truth.”

The group accused EC’s officials of not having the ability to even add one to one, “let alone run a credible election”.

It is, therefore, demanding a “credible and transparent electoral process, and we’ll fight tooth and nail to protect our democracy from the EC’s blatant attempts to undermine it”.

This comes in the wake of a response issued by the Commission regarding an earlier presser by the group.

“The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a press conference by a group called Election Watch Ghana, during which one Mark Ewusi alleged that the Electoral Commission was using stolen biometric voter registration (BVR) kits to register people secretly.

“The Commission urges the public to disregard these baseless and unfounded allegations as they are without merit…the Commission has never reported that Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits have been stolen.

“The Commission reported to the security agencies that five laptops were missing…describing the five missing laptops as BVRs is a deliberate attempt by certain groups to deceive the public.”
