The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured Ghanaians that journalists in the country will be safe around its premises as the December 07 election beckons.

“As a political party we an assure you of our partnership. Your journalists will be safe around our premises and as we tour this country and that is the assurance that I will give to you,” a Deputy Communications Officer of the NDC, Godwin Ako Gunn, indicated at the launch of TV3 and 3FM’s Election Command Centre Thursday, August 29, 2024.

He intimated as his wish that the environment will be safe for all journalists and stakeholders as the parties embark on their activities ahead of the elections.

“And it’s my prayer that the streets of Ghana will be safe for all of us as we tour this nation with you,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, Peter Mac Manu, a former National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), also speaking at the event added his voice to the need, to abate misinformation and disinformation going into the December elections.

He advised the political class to treat each other with decorum, describing the December 07 exercise as a contest of ideas which can be done without speaking ill against each other .

Mr. Mac Manu prayed the political class to send their messages across for the electorates to decide instead of engaging in acts that will mar the sanity of the State.

“We should avoid misinformation and disinformation and let us treat each other, whether we are in the same party or different party with civility and decorum. It’s a contest of ideas. Put your ideas across, ultimately, the voter which is the heartbeat of any elections, will decide,” he stated.

He also said that Ghana cannot go into the polls with acts of violence that will threaten the peace of the country, appealing to the citizenry not to indulge in hate speech since it possesses the tendency to plunge the nation into chaos.

“We have 100 days to election. Election needs peace. We cannot go into an election in any manner of violence that will threaten the stability of this nation. So, I’ll like to call on all of us Ghanaians to stop hate speech. Hate speech is dangerous especially during elections and it has brought many countries in Africa into wars. We should avoid that,” he added.
