The Police through a targeted special intelligence investigation on Sunday, June 8, 2025, arrested two suspects at Elmina in the Central Region who were about to smuggle cocoa beans out of the country.
Police received information two weeks ago, that there is a cocoa beans and illicit drugs syndicate operating at Elmina where the above named items are transported to other neighboring countries.
On Sunday June 8 2025, about 11 P.M, through intelligence-led operation, police arrested one Andy Kwofie who was driving a Hyundai Mighty truck with registration No. CR 726-25 with 250 bags of cocoa beans on board.
A statement issued by ASP Patrick Bentum of the Public Affairs Unit of the Central Regional Police Command said during interrogation the suspect named one Francis Armah as the recipient, who would have transported the cocoa beans through the sea to other neighboring countries, but he was later arrested in the same night.
The truck has since been impounded at the Regional Police Headquarters, Cape Coast whiles suspects are in police custody assisting with investigation.
Authorities have indicated that efforts are underway to apprehend additional members of the suspected smuggling syndicate.
