Solomon Owusu, Director of Communications for the United Party (UP), is urging Ghana’s government to include Enayat Qasimi, Ken Ofori-Atta’s US-based lawyer, in its investigation into the former Finance Minister’s charges.

Owusu suspects Qasimi, given his track record, might have facilitated Ofori-Atta’s alleged corrupt schemes.

Speaking on the BigIssue segment of the NewDay morning show on TV3 Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Owusu revealed that Qasimi, a former Afghan Aviation Minister, was wanted for corruption.

He therefore suspects his involvement as Ofori-Atta’s lawyer makes him a “coefficient” in the alleged crimes. Owusu advocated for addressing corrupt politicians in a language that resonates with average Ghanaians, rather than using grammatical jargons.

“Impunity, corruption, embezzlement, these are languages for the rich. Let’s go down, they stole from us,” he stated, citing the former Finance Minister and how his lawyer could be an accomplice of his deeds.

“Your former Finance Minister has run away to the United States. Now to even add insults to injury, he has gone to engage another criminally-minded lawyer called Enayat Qasimi. Go to Afghanistan, he was being pursued. He was a former Aviation Minister,” he stated.

He questioned the circumstances surrounding Ofori-Atta’s legal representation, stating, “the whole of the United States, no pure white man was willing to defend Ken Ofori-Atta, he had to go to Afghanistan, that guy is not a pure American. He’s an Afghan.”

Owusu alleged Qasimi is under corruption investigation and urged Ghana’s government to include him in the probe into Ofori-Atta’s charges.

“Someone who himself was embroiled in a similar fashion. That guy must be a subject, in fact Ghana government must begin to petition that… because Ken Ofori-Atta has given us a clue, the people that are in the equation, the coefficients, Enayat is a coefficient of the crimes we are talking about,” he alleged.

Meanwhile, Qasimi has told the BBC that Ofori-Atta’s case is politically motivated.
