Henry Osei Akoto, one of the convenors of the #DumsorMustStop vigil working with actress Yvonne Nelson, has expressed shock over President Akufo-Addo’s claim that there is no dumsor in the country.

He says as a President, he expects him to be on top of issues regarding the energy sector, rather than telling Ghanaians the opposite of what the reality is.

Mr. Akoto, speaking with Alfred Ocansey on TV3’s Ghana Tonight Tuesday, May 14, 2024, stated that the President might actually be living in a different world to assume the intermittent power outages otherwise known as ‘dumsor’ is not non-existent.

“One thing I’ve seen about Nana Akufo-Addo in the last few months is that he has decided to lie through his teeth and tells Ghanaians anything that he wants. If Nana Addo tells us that we are not in dumsor, I’m not surprised.

“I don’t know whether he is not in this country or he is living in a different country and he is trying to tell us that what we the people in Ghana are saying that we are in dumsor and he is denying that we are in dumsor is very unfortunate. This is because I expect the President to be on top of issues, expect him to know what is happening within the energy sector, I mean the power space in the country,” he told host, Alfred Ocansey.

President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during the May Day celebration on Wednesday, May 01, indicated that the erratic power supply bedeviling Ghanaian businesses has abated and will not reoccur.

He said the transformers that encountered challenges to necessitate dumsor have all been fixed.

According to him, the resolution of the challenge led a nationwide stable power throughout the whole of Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

“Issues surrounding the maintenance of the transformers have been resolved, Indeed we have witnessed stable power supply across the country with no load shedding reported anywhere yesterday…I am confident that the unfortunate era of dumsor will not return,” he said at his May Day address Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Meanwhile, Mr. Akoto, who is convening a dumsor vigil with Yvonne Nelson says their last checks across the country revealed that there is no single region that has been left behind in the ongoing dumsor.

“The 16 regions of this country, we have checked and every region is going through this erratic power supply so if the President is saying that we are not in dumsor, I don’t know where he is coming from. Maybe probably he is not on top of the game in the energy sector,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command has invited Yvonne Nelson for a meeting on May 15 over their intended vigil on May 25, 2024.
