The Eastern South Regional Police Command have arrested eleven individuals involved in illegal mining activities at Fichserkrom, in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The suspects, two Burkinabes and nine Ghanaians, aged between 20 and 52, were found mining illegally on a Rubber Plantation.
According to the Eastern South Regional Commander, DCOP Ohene-Boadi Bossman, the successful arrest was made following intelligence gathered by the police.
“We received intel that a group of miners had invaded a rubber plantation farm at Fichserkrom,” he explained.
“We mobilized the anti-galamsey task force to the site, where we discovered a group of men illegally mining on the rubber plantation, we arrested 11 of them,” he added.
DCOP Ohene-Boadi Bossman expressed his commitment to combating illegal mining in the region, vowing to take decisive action against perpetrators while safeguarding the region’s farms and forests.
“I pledge, with my sweat and blood, to deal with any illegal miner in this Eastern South Region. They must face the law and be held accountable,” he stated.
The eleven suspects are currently being processed for court in Koforidua.
