President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to launch the No Fees Stress policy today in the Eastern Region on July 4.

Ahead of the official launch, 3news has been engaging with selected first year tertiary students who have converged at the Seventh-day Adventist College of Education.

Elvis Agyekum is a first-year student at the SDA College of Education.

“As a beneficiary of this policy it would empower students to seek high intellectual growth.”

“Yesterday, after lectures several of my colleagues were jubilating, later on I had an alert from GCB on my phone, my school fees of over GHC1,800 was paid into my account. I thank President John Mahama and the Education Minister” A first-year female student at the SDA college of education added.

“I haven’t received mine yet, because I am yet to get a GCB account and log onto the portal. I am assured of receiving mine as well, looking at how my colleagues have received theirs already.” Ransford Acheampong of University of Environment and Sustainable Development said in high hopes.

The No Fees Stress policy is designed to provide academic user fee waivers for first-year students enrolled in public tertiary institutions across the country.

Eligible students are expected to file applications on an online platform for verification. Government officials say so far 15,000 students have received their payments.

The implementation of the policy is part of government’s effort to make higher education more accessible and affordable, in line with President John Mahama’s campaign promise.
