A hat trick by Black Stars midfielder Fatawu Issahaku helped EFL Championship leaders Leicester City FC to a 5-0 win over Southampton FC.

Tuesday’s match, played at the King Power Stadium, saw the Ghanaian also assisting Jamie Vardy in the 87 minutes he spent on the pitch.

Nigerian Wilfred Ndidi was the scorer of the second goal.

It was a game to savour for Issahaku as he opened the scoring just 25 minutes into the game.

Fifteen minutes later, the Saints were forced to make a substitution as Will Smallbone came in for Joe Rothwell, who appeared to have picked a knock.

Despite keeping the score at 1-0 into the break, fourth-placed Southampton were broken in the second half with Nigerian Ndidi scoring in the 62nd minute, a couple of minutes after the visitors’ second substitution.

Issahaku got his second and the Foxes’ third in the 75th minute before assisting Vardy for the fourth goal.

He completed his hat trick in the 82nd minute after which Enzo Maresca subbed him, probably as a caution to get him match-ready for the game against Preston North End FC on Monday.

Ghana’s Kamaldeen Sulemana was an unused substitute for Southampton.
