Recently-crowned Ghana Premier League champions FC Samartex 1996 have decided to use the Accra Sports Stadium as their home grounds for their CAF Champions League campaign.

General Manager Edmund Ackah disclosed on Agoro Fie on Onua TV on Friday, June 28 that they have made the nation’s foremost stadium their first choice for inspection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials.

“Our centers are two, Accra and Kumasi. You would have to present your options and CAF comes in for inspection,” he opened up to host Alfred Takyi Mensah.

“So, if they inspect the two [grounds] whichever they decide on, that’s where we will play but the first option is Accra.”

He rejected reports that they had considered the newly-built T n A Park in Tarkwa, saying the ground, for Medeama SC, has not been even commissioned, let alone eligible for continental matches.

Outlining the itinerary of FC Sax, Mr Ackah said pre-season is starting in earnest for the side.

“We are starting on Monday [July 1]. You know the [Ghana] Premier League will start in September and the CAF Champions League will start in August.

“Per our plans, the minimum to have for preseason will be six weeks.”

He said this has bee dinned into all stakeholders after they went on break following the league triumph.

FC Samartex won the 2023/24 League after amassing 61 points in total, 10 more than second-placed Accra Lions.

They won 16 out of 17 home games to annex the title, their first in history.

Their dominance at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samreboi sparked accusations from former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Dr Nyaho Nyahi-Tamakloe that they did not win the title on merit.

The club’s General Manager was riled by the claims and insisted that they won the league on merit.

“We trained continuously during the AFCON break and you are witness that from Week 14, we were tops till after the last game.”
