The Ga Mantsɛ has challenged the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to immediately find sustainable solutions to Accra’s filth problems.
Niii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, interacting with market queens on a tour, questioned why initiatives geared towards ridding Accra of filth have not yielded the desired results.
Governments, past and present have introduced various initiatives, including Operation Clean Your Frontage, National Sanitation Day among others, aimed at ridding Accra of filth in markets and other centres.
But these initiatives have not yielded the needed results.
Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, on Wednesday toured some parts of the Makola Market to interact with the traders.
He charged the Greater Accra Regional Minister, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, and others to find solutions to the problem of filth in Accra.
“I have been wondering why the many efforts to get Accra clean has not given us the results we need. So, I said I will not sit at home for even a day, when Accra remains filthy. It’s a clarion call to all of us, to enforce and adhere to the sanitation bylaws, to the letter,” Nii Ga said.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Titus Glover, indicated that the Regional Co-ordinating Council is introducing a new measure to ensure Accra is clean.
“We have done it before, but the sustainability has been a challenge, so that is why this time we want to partner Nii Ga, and the ‘Asafoatsemei’ for a successful implementation” he indicated.
The New initiative is expected to begin in July 2024, with committee and teams preparing for implementation.
