A devastating fire has swept through several shops in Nantwikumye, a suburb of Bibiani in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, causing extensive damage.

The blaze which occurred on the evening of Sunday August 11, 2025, engulfed four shops, including two dressmaking outlets, a cosmetics store, and a hairdressing salon, destroying valuable equipment and inventory.

Among the items lost were industrial sewing machines, fabrics, cosmetics, cash, artificial hair, and other goods essential to the businesses.

Richmond Appiah, Public Relations Officer of the Bibiani Municipal Fire Service, said firefighters responded promptly to a distress call. Despite the intensity of the fire, the team managed to contain it and prevent further spread.

“The fire broke out suddenly, and our team moved quickly to control the blaze. Though the damage was significant, we contained the situation to these four shops and prevented any injuries or wider destruction,” Richmond Appiah stated.

Municipal Fire Service Commander, DO2 Enock Tetteh, took the opportunity to advise residents and business owners in the municipality to take fire safety seriously.

“We urge everyone to ensure the use of proper and certified electrical materials in their homes and shops. This is vital to prevent such devastating fires in the future,” he emphasized.

No casualties have been reported from the incident,but affected business owners are now seeking assistance as they begin the process of recovery from their losses.

Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire as they remind the public to remain vigilant and observe strict fire safety measures.
