Former Member of Parliament for Effia in the Western Region, Joseph Cudjoe, has questioned whether the Mahama administration is investing enough in STEM education to equip the youth with knowledge, skills and technological capabilities to create wealth beyond natural resources.
In a circular released on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Cudjoe said the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration demonstrated an understanding of investing in people through its education policies.
He quoted economist Erich W. Zimmermann that “resources are not; they become” and said Ghana must stop conditioning its youth to believe that natural resources are the foundation of wealth.
“The fundamental question is not how much wealth nature has deposited beneath our feet, but how much productive capacity we have developed above the ground,” he said.
Cudjoe said Ghana should invest heavily in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education to equip young people with the capabilities to create technologies, develop products and build competitive industries.
“Human resources, when continuously developed, can renew and expand their value, while natural resources are finite and can be depleted,” he said.
