An Accra High Court presided over by Justice Marie-Louise Simmons has discharged former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi and one other following the failure of ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and four others to testify.

Justice Simmons discharged Mr Nyantakyi and former Northern Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairman Abdulai Alhassan on Thursday, February 13 as there was not enough evidence in court against them.

All five witnesses including Anas Aremeyaw Anas failed to mount the witness box to testify.

A Court of Appeal on Thursday, January 30 ordered the award-winning journalist to testify without his trademark mask for the case to proceed.

He, however, failed to show up as he had previously requested witness in-camera.

Justice Simmons’ decision brings to an end the trial, which was sparked by an investigative documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas on Ghana football.

Titled ‘Number 12: When Greed and Corruption Become the Norm’, the documentary exposed rot in Ghana football in 2018, leading to the resignation of Mr Nyantakyi not only as GFA President but also the Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

He was later charged for fraud and corruption.
