The death has been reported of former Minister of Youth and Sports Major (rtd) Dr Mustapha Ahmed.

The sad incident is said to have occurred in the late hours of Wednesday, February 7.

Dr Mustapha Ahmed served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso North Constituency between 2001 and 2016.

He was appointed the Minister of Youth and Sports by then President John Dramani Mahama in March, 2015, taking over from Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga.

However, less than one year, he was replaced by Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye in a reshuffle that got him ousted from government.

In March, last year, Dr Ahmed was in the news following his sentencing to seven days in prison for contempt of court.

He was jailed by the Financial and Economic Crimes Division of an Accra High Court for trespassing on a land he was charged to avoid.

He was also fined GH¢12,000 by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe, failure of which he would have served 30 days more in jail.

Dr Mustapha Ahmed is expected to be buried in accordance with Islamic customs.
