The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Sunday, September 21 visited the personal photographer of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Rev. Christian Tsui Hesse (Chris Hesse).
Rev. Hesse is one of Ghana’s most celebrated cinematographers and filmmakers. He was responsible for preserving a priceless visual archive of Ghana’s political leadership and development.
The Vice president was accompanied to Rev. Hesse’s residence by Advisor of the 24-hour economy, Goosie Tanoh and Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia.

Professor Naana Jane expressed gratitude to Rev. Hesse for documenting and safeguarding Ghana’s history.

“His archives capture the facts of our nation’s journey and remains an invaluable national treasure at a time when narratives are too often distorted,” Prof Opoku-Agyemang noted.

The Vice President assured Rev. Hesse of government’s commitment to safeguarding the archives and filling the gaps to ensure the next generation has access not only to data but to the qualitative truths of the Ghanaian story.

She stated that Chris Hesse’s contributions underscored the importance of owning and preserving history.
“As we reflect on Founder’s Day, we are reminded of Nkrumah’s declaration of our independence representing an unfinished but bold step toward African liberation. Today, with global shifts underway, the lessons from that era remain highly relevant,” she said.

The Veep thanked Rev. Chris Hesse for his extraordinary service to the nation and prayed for his continued strength and good health.
