The Bolgatanga East District Assembly has partnered Star Brand to honour and appreciate hard working farmers ahead of this year’s farmers day celebration for their sacrifices and investment in food security.
According to the Bolgatanga East District Assembly, the common fund and the Internal Generated Funds (IGF) are insufficient and there is no allocation for the organization of farmers day celebration.
In terms of the IGF, the District Chief Executive, Jacob Abugri Aka–Eri disclosed during the handing over of items for the award of best farmers that, the Assembly is not able to generate enough IGF for even up to GHC 200,000 due to the size of the market in the district.
Star Brand is the highest partner in this year’s farmers day celebration in the Upper East Region with millions worth of products to farmers including high density mattresses, student mattresses, standing fans, television sets and many products.

There are over 15,000 farmers in the Bolgatanga East District in the area of crop farming, animal husbandry, poultry farming, dry season vegetable farming and agro-processors.
Ghana’s Farmers’ Day was established in 1985 to honor farmers and fishermen following severe droughts and a resulting 30% growth in agriculture in 1984. The first celebration was held in Osino, a town in the Eastern Region that was heavily impacted by the droughts.
The annual event has since grown to include awards ceremonies, exhibitions, and community events to recognize the sector’s contributions to national development.
The Bolgatanga East District Assembly requested for support from the Star Brand to help celebrate farmers. The support was overwhelming and first of its kind in the Upper East Region.

The Representative of Star Brand, Anabachi Ernest explained the motive of helping the District Assembly to celebrate the farmers day.
“We received a letter from the Assembly, seeking for our support for the coming farmers day activity and as an organization in Bolga East, operating in Bolga East, we saw that it was necessary for us to partner the Assembly to salvage our farmers. So this morning we are here with these items, to present them to the Assembly, to use it to support our farmers”, he said.
The National farmers day celebration is scheduled on Friday 5th, December, 2025 across the country to reward and appreciate farmers contributions to food security.
