Gabon striker Aaron Boupendza has died following a tragic fall from the 11th floor of a building he was occupying.

This was confirmed by the Federation of Gabon Football (FEGAFOOT) on Wednesday, April 16.

“The Gabonese international died following a fall from the 11th floor of his building in China where he was playing for Zhejiang FC,” FEGAFOOT said.

Boupendza was part of the Panthers squad that played at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

He was in the team that drew 1-1 against the Black Stars in their second group game at the tournament.

They made it out of the group together with Morocco and Comoros but were eliminated by Burkina Faso in the Round of 16.

“Aged 28, Boupendza leaves us with the memory of a great striker who left his mark on the CAN (Africa Cup of Nations) in Cameroon.

“Fegafoot and the entire Gabonese football family offer their sincere condolences to his biological family,” the federation added.

After breaking through the ranks for Gabonese side CF Mounana, Boupendza signed for Bordeaux in 2016, going on multiple loans.

He later signed for Turkish side Hatayspor, where he won the top scorer award in the Turkish Super Lig.

He also played for a number of clubs in Qatar and Saudi Arabia before landing in China for Zhejiang FC.
