The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has said investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the crash of Airforce Z9 helicopter near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a statement issued to confirm the tragedy, GAF said all onboard the Z9 helicopter have died.
The Ghana Armed Forces extended its condolences to families of the deceased.
According to GAF “the helicopter Z9 that took off this morning at 0912hrs from Accra enroute to Obuasi has crashed in the general area of Sikaman near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region and all are confirmed dead.”
The soldiers who lost their lives were, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The passengers were Dr Edward Omane Boamah Minister for Defence, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, NDC and Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary candidate.
Meanwhile, Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has disclosed that the military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives has left the President emotionally down.
The Minister, speaking with JoyNews after a press conference at the Jubilee House, prayed that God grants the President and the entire citizenry the fortitude to bear the loss.
“A tragic departure of our colleagues in the service of our country. They were on their way to Obuasi to launch Cooperative Mining Initiative. The President is down emotionally,” he stated.
“We pray that God will give him the fortitude and the Ghanaian people to accept this loss.”
