Chairman of the Government Assurances Committee of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated that the Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission attempted to present a document which did not reconcile with what’s stated on the Commission’s repository.

Ablakwa says the CEO, during his meeting with the Committee in Parliament Monday, October 07, presented a documentation of companies who have been granted permit to mine since 2012.

However, the North Tongu lawmaker says the document presented by Minerals Commission CEO is different from what is contained on the Commission’s repository.

The document presented to the Commission contained the number of permits that were granted each year, unlike what is on the website having the specific dates the permits were granted together with the location, name of companies and other details.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Tuesday, October 08, 2024, Mr. Ablakwa stated that they have asked the CEO to go and reconcile his figures with what’s on their website.

“Let me confirm that there was an attempt by the CEO of Minerals Commission, Mr. Ayisi, to present a scanty document to us yesterday (Monday, October 07) when we invited him to delve into the galamsey crisis which poses an existential threat. That document was rejected by the Committee.

“We pointed out to the CEO in very clear terms that the Committee has been working with data that he has put up on the Ghana Mining repository, and when you go into the data that his own institution, the Minerals Commission has provided, it does not align.

“We stated that categorically so I can confirm that there was an attempt to present that scanty document which did not have the list of companies, which did not have the list of documents, the people who are supposed to mine, license code, as you have comprehensively on the Ghana Mining Repository so we rejected that documentary so we’ve asked him to go and reconcile data that they are bringing to Ghanaians surprisingly in a very dishonest manner with data that is available that everybody has seen,” Ablakwa stated.
