Ghana on Monday won Gold at the ongoing African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon in men’s 4x100m.

The final event inside Douala’s Stade de la Reunification saw the African record holders beat their Nigeria rivals to the first position.

The Ghanaian quartet of Ibrahim Fuseini, Isaac Botsio, Edwin Gadayi and Abdul-Rasheed Samunu clocked a time of 38.63s to win the relay event.

Nigeria had to walk away with Silver with a time of 38.84s while La Cote d’Ivoire secured Bronze with a time of 39.77s.

Ghana’s win comes immediately after Nigeria’s women held off stiff competition from their West African rivals to win Gold in the women’s 4x100m final.

In a time of 43.01s, Nigeria breezed to the finish line, leaving Ghana in their trails.

Liberia could have won Silver but for anchor Thelma Davies pulling up with 20m to go.

She finished in a time of 44.38s against Ghana’s 43.62s.
