The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has disclosed that the Commonwealth Games Federation has contacted Ghana for a possible hosting of the Commonwealth Youth Games.

According to the Minister, the country has now become a destination of choice for international sports due to the world-class facilities put up for the 2023 African Games.

Mustapha Ussif, who is also the Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori Constituency, disclosed this on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, June 25.

He was giving a report on the 2023 African Games held from Friday, March 8 to Saturday, March 23, earlier this year.

“The facilities at Borteyman, especially, the Aquatic Centre is one of its kind in the whole of Africa,” he stated on the floor of Parliament.

“This has positioned Ghana as a preferred destination to host and organise international competitions and tournaments. We have already received requests from international sports bodies seeking to host international sports events in Ghana. For example, the Commonwealth has been in contact, wanting Ghana to host the Commonwealth Youth Games.”

Over the weekend, Ghana was handed the hosting rights for the 2026 African Athletics Championships by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA).

The Minister said these are the legacies of the African Games and that is what President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo envisioned.

The Commonwealth Youth Games have been held since 200.

The next edition is scheduled to be held in Maldives in 2025.
