The Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, has assured Ghanaians that the company’s pipelines and installations are well-secured and protected from the destructive activities of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking in an interview with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson the host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show, Mr. Kirk-Mensah explained that security around the gas infrastructure has been intensified to prevent any threats.

“The pipelines of Ghana Gas remain safe from the activities of illegal mining. Security around the infrastructure has been intensified to ensure that anyone who attempts to interfere with or go near the pipelines will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he indicated.

He further clarified that the recent temporary shutdown and maintenance works at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant would not lead to power outages or fuel shortages.

“The temporary shutdown and maintenance works at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant will not result in ‘dumsor’ or any shortage of gas supply in the country,” he assured.

Mr. Kirk-Mensah also used the opportunity to critique the performance of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration regarding the company’s expansion.

“The NPP failed to expand the activities of the Ghana National Gas Company during their eight years in power. However, President John Dramani Mahama has assured that his government will soon commence the second phase of the project,” he stated.

On the company’s current focus, he noted that the new management team is committed to restoring Ghana Gas to its original vision.

“The new management of the Ghana Gas Company is refocusing on the core mandate of the company, which has been deviated from over the years,” he added.

Mr. Kirk-Mensah reiterated that Ghana Gas remains a national strategic asset and called on the public to support efforts at safeguarding its infrastructure for sustainable energy supply and national development.
