The Director of Conflict Resolution for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, has asked that Ghanaians should be given certificates of survival for making it through Akufo-Addo’s leadership.
Amaliba thinks surviving through the abysmal leadership of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration is no less an achievement that should go unnoticed.
During his preliminary comments on TV3’s NewDay Friday, January 03, 2025, the former Director of Legal Affairs for the NDC noted that the near exit of Akufo-Addo as President of the Republic should be something all Ghanaians should celebrate.
Amaliba was commenting on the final State of the Nation Address to be given by President Akufo-Addo today, when he said the ending of his term is what Ghanaians should celebrate and be recognised for, considering what people have had to endure under his bad leadership.
“We are getting to the tail-end of the bad governance we’ve had. I was the first to indicate that Ghanaians should be given certificates after this government leaves office, of bearing the hardship. I think that they should be preparing our certificates for us,” he stated.
He further condemned the usual excuses government and NPP communicators have given for the failure of the administration by citing Russia-Ukraine war and Covid-19 as the reason for the worst performance any government has made in the country’s history.
According to him, economies of the countries at the centre of the war are even doing better than Ghana, and blaming the war as the cause of Ghana’s woes is untenable. He also stated that the government made a lot of gains from Covid-19 and using it as an excuse for Ghana’s plummeting economy is only an indication of how incompetent Akufo-Addo and his cohorts have been the last eight years.
“You read a texter who talks about Ukraine-Russia and I shudder to think that even where the bombs are falling, the economy is not as bad as this place and yet you keep saying Ukraine and Russia. And yet the countries that you’re mentioning, they are the hardest hit yet their economy is not as bad as ours,” he added.
President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SoNA) today, Friday, January 03, 2025, in Parliament before exiting office as President of the Republic.
The address is to be delivered prior to the dissolution of the 8th Parliament before the 9th Parliament will be inaugurated on January 07, 2025.
This, as contained in Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, grants the President the opportunity to let Ghanaians know the state in which the country is, before exiting office as President.
