President John Drammai Maham has tasked the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to adapt to the evolving security landscape to meet the changing needs of society.

He says the changing trends requires a new approach in crime combating, information gathering amongst others.

The President made the call during the swearing-in ceremony of the new IGP, COP Yohuno, at the Jubilee House Friday, March 14, 2025, where he asked him to adjust the traditional policing methods to meet current security trends.

“Your appointment as IGP comes at a time when the security landscape is rapidly evolving. Traditional policing methods must be adapted to confront new and emerging threats and crimes,” stated the President.

According to Mahama, “we face increasing incidents of violent crime, cybercrime, and fraud, as well as new forms of organized crime that demand sophisticated investigative techniques.”

He indicated that “the global security environment presents fresh challenges, from terrorism to transnational criminal networks, which requires strong intelligence gathering and proactive law enforcement.”

President Mahama also noted that the citizenry expect more from the police service due to these changing trends in security matters.

“Ghanaians have high expectations of the police service, and rightly so, our people look to you for protection,” stated Mahama, adding that Ghanaians “want to see a police service that is not only professional and disciplined, but also one that is fair and just.”

“They want to be reassured that when they report crimes, they receive a swift and impartial response,” added the President.
