The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has indicated that it will embark on a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign following a rise in COVID-19 cases being recorded at health centres.

The six-day campaign, according to GHS, will start on Saturday, May 4 and end on Friday, May 10, in various parts of the Greater Accra Region.

Following the outbreak of the pandemic, the Greater Accra Region has recorded the highest cases of infection.

Moreover, the Ghana Health Service has called for rigorous adherence to safety precautions and standards, voicing concerns over the virus’s ease of transmission.

Furthermore, the Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, in a media engagement ahead of the exercise, encouraged all Ghanaians to take part in the activity, stressing the importance of nationwide vaccination to stop the virus’s spread.

“We are getting a few cases reported in parts of Accra and a few other regions. And it brings to bear the fact that Ghanaians need to be vaccinated and so on the 4th to the 10th of May, we are going to do a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign and we want to urge all Ghanaians to be part of the exercise.

“We plan to do about four or five before the end of the year. The thinking is that we need to get the necessary population immunity that will help us minimise the risk of getting infections in the country,” said Dr. Asiedu-Bekoe.
