President John Dramani Mahama has admonished residents of Bawku and its environs in the Upper East Region to make peace a priority in the season of Ramadan.

The President has reemphasised the need to embrace peace in these times to ensure a harmonious co-existence to foster togetherness as the season of Ramadan preaches.

President Mahama, whilst speaking at the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration held at the Black Star Square in Accra under the auspices of the National Chief Imam Monday, March 31, 2025, reiterated his earlier call on residents of Bawku and its enclave to give room for peace.

He appealed to the parties in the Bawku insurgence to phase out their differences and set a target towards lasting peace. John Mahama also reminded them to focus on things that will foster their progress and livelihoods instead of conflict.

“Finally, as we celebrate this Ramadan, I want to urge my brothers and sisters in Bawku to give peace a chance. Ramadan is a period for togetherness,” he called.

The President appealed to leadership of the area, including religious and traditional authorities, to help in the mediation process to foster a dialogue among interested parties to restore stability in the area.

His government, he assured the people, will also work towards ensuring peace in the area to enable them get the needed development.

“Let us use this sacred occasion to reflect on the values of love, forgiveness, and harmony. Together, we can build a stronger and more united community,” Mahama counseled.
