Mining consultant, Seth Worlashime Klaye has urged management of the Ghana GoldBod to extend the period for small-scale gold dealers to acquire new licenses after their previous licenses have been terminated.
GoldBod in a statement on April 14, 2025 announced the revocation of all licenses for small-scale gold dealers issued by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
GoldBod further issued an ultimatum for small-scale gold dealers to acquire new licenses from its website effective April 22, 2025 but have until April 30 to cease operations.
However, Seth Worlashime Klaye who once served as Executive board member for PMMC for five years believes the process of license acquisition is too short for small-scale gold dealers.
“I think that with the license process, they could give a little more grace period but with the exit as far as foreigners are concerned with the trade, April 30 is okay,” he said in an interview on TV3 New Day’s Big Issue, Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
He emphasised that the whole transition process for GoldBod to take over PMMC could be extended.
“I think that the transition period is short and I believe that they could be extended because you are giving them April 30 to cease operations and you are opening a window eight days to that time.
“I don’t know the numbers if those numbers can be handled in a week and make sure that they are compliant and ensure that their licenses are ready and issued before April 30 that will be fine,” he added.
