The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Western Regional Chapter, has officially opened nominations for the 2026 GJA Western Region/Western North Region Media Awards and the Corporate Social Impact (CSI) Awards, calling on journalists, media organizations and corporate institutions to submit entries for recognition of outstanding contributions to regional development.
The awards, which have become a hallmark of excellence in the region, seek to celebrate exceptional journalism that informs, educates and empowers communities, while also honouring corporate organizations whose social investments continue to improve lives and advance sustainable development across the Western Region.
Announcing the call for entries, the Vice Chairman of the GJA Western Regional Chapter, Kwame (Malcolm) Mensa, said the awards are designed not only to reward excellence but also to inspire higher standards of professionalism, accountability, innovation and responsible corporate citizenship.
“The GJA believes that sustainable development thrives where quality journalism and responsible corporate institutions work hand in hand. These awards recognize journalists whose reporting drives public discourse and development, while celebrating companies whose investments are making measurable differences in the lives of people and communities.”
Media Awards
The 2026 Media Awards will recognize outstanding reporting across a broad range of development-focused categories, including:
- Infrastructure & Development
- Fisheries
- Cocoa & Agriculture Affairs
- Oil & Gas/Energy
- Environment
- Education
- Sports
- Crime & Legal Affairs
- Health
- Gender & Social Inclusion
- Business & Labour Affairs
The awards are open to journalists and media houses based in the Western and Western North Regions. The awards will consider published works from 2024 to 2026. Eligible entries must have been published, broadcast or produced within that period.
Submissions must include a cover letter indicating the category being entered and explaining the relevance of the work. The submitted work must have been published or broadcast between 2024 and 2026. Print and online entries should include copies of the published work, publication details and links where applicable, while radio and television entries must be accompanied by audio or video recordings, broadcast details and transcripts.
Corporate Social Impact Awards
The Corporate Social Impact Awards will honour organizations whose investments have delivered meaningful and sustainable benefits to communities across the Western Region.
Award categories include:
- Community Impact of the Year
- Environmental Stewardship Excellence
- Social Investment Program of the Year
- Partnership for Development
- Local Content & Employment Champion
- Corporate Social Impact of the Year
The awards recognize organizations whose Corporate Social Investment initiatives have demonstrated measurable outcomes in areas such as education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, local economic empowerment, infrastructure development, strategic partnerships and community transformation.
The flagship Corporate Social Impact of the Year award will be presented to the organization whose overall social investment portfolio has demonstrated exceptional commitment to sustainable development and responsible corporate citizenship.
Call for Nominations
Nominations for both the Media and CSI Awards may be made through self-nomination or third-party nomination.
All entries must be submitted using the official nomination form no later than Friday, August 7, 2026.
The awards ceremony will be held in September 2026 at the Western Serene Atlantic Hotel, Takoradi, where outstanding journalists and corporate organizations will be recognized for their contributions to the socio-economic development of the region.
