The Ghana Meteorological Agency has issued an impact-based weather alert warning of widespread thunderstorms and rainstorms across several parts of the country, with citizens advised to take immediate precautionary measures.

In its update issued on March 31 at 1600 UTC, GMet indicated that two separate rainstorms forming along the borders of Togo and Benin are expected to merge and move into Ghana, intensifying weather conditions into the night.

The Agency warned that the combined system, along with locally formed rain-bearing clouds, is likely to produce thunderstorms and varying intensities of rainfall across coastal, middle, transition, and parts of the northern sectors.

Several areas including Ho, Jasikan, Kpandai, Tamale, Kumasi, Obuasi, Accra, Kasoa, Cape Coast, Sunyani, Tarkwa, and Axim are expected to be affected at different intervals, with some locations facing high-impact conditions in the early hours of the event.

GMet’s impact-based weather update plces parts of the country under a “Take Action” and “Be Prepared” alert level, indicating a high likelihood of significant weather impact, including strong winds and heavy rainfall.

The Agency cautioned that low-lying areas remain particularly vulnerable to flooding, while windy conditions are expected to accompany the storms, increasing the risk of damage.

Residents in affected areas have been urged to remain alert, secure property, and avoid flood-prone zones as the weather system progresses.
