It has been confirmed that a total of thirty-three rooms have been affected in a fire incident at the Maaha Beach and Vision Beach resorts in the Ellembele District of the Western Region.
A swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service curtailed the wild fire from escalating on Wednesday (May 28, 2025) night.
District Fire Commander, DO2 Mark Hamilton, detailed that the fire started at around 7pm from Vision Beach Resort, spreading wildly by the winds to Maaha Beach Resort. He disclosed that 15 rooms, a kitchen and reception at Vision Beach were completed razed by the inferno.
At Maaha, 18 rooms were affected, 8 of which were completed burnt. “The worker of Quantum Terminals Limited, phoned the Fire Service at Ghana Gas at 7:59pm yesterday to report of a fire incident. The fire started at Vision Beach Resort and the embers touched Maaha.
“15 rooms at Vision have been razed. Their kitchen and reception was also burnt. At Maaha, 18 rooms were affected by the fire. Eight rooms were completely burnt…these were wooden structures with thatch roof. The remainder (10) were built partially with concrete. Those ones were partially burnt… air conditioners, furniture and other items were burnt but the main structure is intact,” he told Connect FM in Takoradi.
DO2 Mark Hamilton added that investigations are still ongoing. He, however, suspects it could be an electrical problem or negligence. He indicated that the earliest information they received of the source of the fire was that “it started at the changing room of the staff of Vision Beach Resort.”
“We have an idea of what caused it but we want to be sure of what caused the fire before we put out any information. We are not ruling our anything. It could be electricity or negligence,” he emphasised.
So far, no casualties have been recorded. The management of these two companies are yet to estimate the losses they’ve suffered as a result of this accident.
