Ghana’s former President and flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has stormed the hometown of President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, asking them to hold him accountable.

John Mahama, on the first day of his five-day campaign tour to the Eastern region Monday, November 18, 2024, went to Kyebi, the hometown of President Akufo-Addo in the Abuakwa South constituency where he highlighted on the failure of the President to the constituency.

He said the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has failed to bring the needed development to the constituents after being in power for 8 years.

Particularly, the presidential candidate of the NDC wants the constituents to demand from the government, their US$8million to address the many developmental challenges confronting them in the area.

He slammed the current administration for deceiving Ghanaians with a promise of a yearly US$1 million for development, adding that if any constituency would have been deceived, it shouldn’t be Abuakwa South where the President hails from and served as their Member of Parliament in the early days of his political career.

Addressing a crowd at Kyebi, John Mahama asked the constituents to demand for what is theirs to put up the needed infrastructure and other developments needed in the area.

“Abuakwa South was promised one million dollars every year. If at all no constituency got the money, Abuakwa South should have gotten the one million dollars. So by now you should have gotten 8 million dollars to embark on many development projects.

“But since I came, I have been shown a long list of poor roads, lack of water and a whole lot of challenges which the 8 million dollars could have solved,” he stated.

Meanwhile, he had earlier accused the government of stealing the metals on the Accra – Nsawam rail line after collapsing that mode of transport which hitherto supported commuters on that stretch.

“Initially there was a train that plied Accra to Nsawam but as we speak the rail line does not work anymore and worst part of it is that the NPP people have removed all of them and sold them,” he alleged whilst addressing residents of Nsawam.
