Government has appealed to the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) to reconsider its decision to embark on a civil unrest following the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway, Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
An appeal from the presidency was delivered at a press conference by organised by the Spokesperson for President Mahama and Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
He said “we believe that the president has acted correctly in the appointment of Adom Botchway, so we would appeal to CLOGSAG to rescind their decision to go on strike.”
The Association expressed its displeasure with the appointment of Mr. Botchway to the Birth and Deaths Registry saying he is politically tainted. But according to the government, it adopted due process in the appointment of Mr. Botchway saying there is no sufficient basis for the strike anymore.
He, however, acknowledged the relevance of strikes as a mechanism for workers to put their grievances across.
“A strike action, we appreciate. It is one of the mechanisms they can use to drive home their demands… But in this particular instance, we do not believe that an efficient basis exists to go on strike because it will be unfair to the people of Ghana who pay the wages of all public officers, including members of CLOGSAG,” he explained.
