Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, as statutory public holidays to mark the Easter celebrations.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Interior and signed by the Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on Monday, March 30, says the two days, which fall on Good Friday and Easter Monday must be observed nationwide as public holidays.
The declaration paves the way for Christians across the country to commemorate one of the most significant periods on the religious calendar, marking the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ the Saviour.
Good Friday, observed on April 3 this year, symbolises the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, while Easter Monday, on April 6, continues the celebrations following Easter Sunday.
The Interior Ministry’s announcement ensures that public institutions, businesses and workers align their schedules in observance of the holidays, in accordance with Ghana’s statutory requirements.
The Easter period is traditionally marked by church services, family gatherings and social events across the country, with major centres such as Kwahu expected to host large numbers of revellers for the annual festivities.
The Minister urged the public to observe the holidays in accordance with the law, as Christians reflect on the significance of the season.
