The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Abass Apaak, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that the posting of teacher trainees to service areas after their studies will be done promptly.
He has also assured that the posting, which has been politicised in recent years, will be devoid of politics.
The Minister says the system will prioritise equity and eliminate favoritism in these postings to ensure deployment is data-driven.
Dr Apaak, speaking at the 29th Annual Delegates’ Congress of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana held at the St. Francis College of Education at Hohoe on Saturday, May 17, 2025, assured the reinstatement of the postings as it used to.
“We also intend to ensure the automatic posting and fair deployment of teachers based on data and equity, as we were reminded, we will do our best to ensure that we remove politics and favouritism from these activities,” he assured.
He also disclosed that the government was working to resolve infrastructural challenges in Colleges of Education across the country to provide adequate accommodation for trainees, particularly females and those living with disabilities.
According to him, plans are also in place to introduce a support system for trainees to cushion them during their teaching practice after studies.
“We are working to expand facilities and accommodation at colleges of education, especially for female trainees and those with disabilities.
“We are also working to introduce stipend and support system that will reduce the financial burden on these service teachers, especially during your national practice periods,” he indicated.
The Minister’s comments came on the back of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana’s appeal to the government to find ways to facilitate the prompt posting of teachers after completing their training.
The Association had disclosed that the delay in posting teachers was creating unnecessary anxiety and frustration among trainees and graduates in the country.
