Two goals in each half  earned Accra Hearts of Oak a 2-0 win over Young Apostles on Saturday, March 8 when the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League made a return after a month of no action.

The break was occasioned by the unfortunate stabbing to death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, after a Matchday 19 game at Nsoatre.

With Hearts of Oak in fourth place as the League was suspended on Monday, February 3, they sought to travel to Aduana Stars for their next game.

However, Matchday 20, 21 and 22 games were declared outstanding with the League returning with Matchday 23, in a statement from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Therefore, the Phobians returned to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium with a date against Wenchi-based Young Apostles.

Michael Awuah Mensah took advantage of a scramble in front of the visitors’ goal following a corner kick in the 43rd minute.

And then an own goal just two minutes into the second half ended the score 2-0 for the Accra side.

With the win, Aboubakar Ouattara’s side go top with 36 points ahead of Bibiani Gold Stars SC and Asante Kotoko, who will return to the pitch on Sunday.

Gold Stars will play Nations FC and the Porcupine Warriors will host Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
