The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has stated that its suspension of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd. (SML) regarding revenue assurance oversight in the upstream petroleum and mineral sectors remains in effect.

According to the Authority, it has not instructed SML to resume operations since suspending them in April 2024, pending further review of their contract with GRA.

The GRA’s comments follow a May 14, 2025, publication by some media outlets claiming SML had unveiled an expansion of its revenue assurance oversight to cover Ghana’s upstream petroleum and solid minerals sectors.

In response to the GRA’s claims, the company stated in a press release issued the same day by its Communications and Public Affairs Department that the suspension remains in effect since no further decision has been taken regarding its deal with the GRA.

“GRA Wishes to clarify that the Authority’s suspension of SML’s services in the upstream petroleum and mineral sectors pending further review issued in April 2024, remains in force.

“GRA has not instructed SML to activate nor resume operations under the 2023 Consolidation of Revenue Assurance Services Contract covering those sectors,” portions of the statement disclosed.

The Authority assured the public and stakeholders in the sectors involved that it would remain steadfast and continue its efforts to ensure the nation’s revenue is secured.

“The Authority wishes to assure stakeholders in the aforementioned sectors and the general public of its unwavering commitment to protect the nation’s revenue with integrity and transparency.”
