Accra Great Olympics on Sunday inflicted a painful 1-0 defeat on Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.

A first-half strike by Raymond Gripmann was what secured all three points for the Accra-based side.

The Matchday 32 encounter was moved from the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex at Abrankese as a result of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier by the Black Stars, scheduled to be played on Monday, June 10.

The crucial nature of the match had forced management of Asante Kotoko to request the release of goalkeepers Frederick Asare from the Black Stars’ camp.

But it was not to be as they lost to the Dade Boys.

Asante Kotoko, by the result, drop to 10th on the log while Great Olympics still languish in the relegation zone despite having a game in hand.

Kotoko will play bottom-placed Real Tamale United (RTU) next while Great Olympics return home revitalized against Accra Hearts of Oak.

They will, however, play host to Dreams FC in that outstanding game on Wednesday, June 5.
