A Police officer has been killed by unidentified gunmen, following a late-night attack at Karimenga on the Bolgatanga–Tamale highway.
The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025, and left several other officers injured.
According to Police sources, the attackers ambushed a bus, prompting a distress call to which Police personnel responded and initially foiled the attack.
However, the gunmen reportedly fled into the bush and later returned to launch a second attack at the Karimenga Police checkpoint.
During the assault, a Police officer who was seated was shot in the head from behind and killed instantly.
Two other officers who returned fire during the attack were also shot and they sustained injuries to their legs. The injured officers are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The motive for the attack has yet to be established.
Following the incident, the police have withdrawn all personnel from the highway as investigations continue.
