There was a near-scare at the Rafahya Al-Seteen hotel in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Sunday afternoon, May 25, 2025, leading to the temporal evacuation of hundreds of Ghanaian hajj pilgrims being housed in the facility.

It is unclear what caused the alarm, but some sources at the hotel say there was a fire incident on the 12th floor, while others say the “12th floor was breaking down,” causing tension and fear among the pilgrims.

Saudi fire and police officers were reported to have rushed to the scene to put things under control.

No casualties or damages to lives were recorded.

Several occupants of the building, including Ghanaian pilgrims, were seen hanging out on the streets nearby, several minutes after the incident, refusing to return to their rooms out of fear.
